ABOUT US

Foundation for Disabled Women (FDW), is a registered non-governmental, non-religion and not-for-profit organization founded in 2011, focuses on the need to give ability to the disabled women in our society, who are neglected, abused, victimized, abandoned, unloved and ignored.

 

These women (disabled) are destitute and displaced, relegated to street begging for sustenance of live, despite their plight as challenged members of the society.

 

MISSION:      To support and advocate for Women With Disabilities’ access to their basic rights, helping them build their self-esteem, confidence and live   

                     dignified life.

 

VISION:         Empowering women with disabilities socially, economically, politically & culturally in Nigeria and elsewhere in Africa

THESE WOMEN CANNOT BE NEGLECTED! YOU CAN EMPOWER AT LEAST ONE OF THEM WITH N1,000 DAILY!!!

 

FDW FACT SHEET

Over 20% of all Nigerian women are disabled. (Health survey, WHO, 1990)

Disabled women/girls are twice as likely to be sexually assaulted.

Disabled Women are more like to be victims of violence.

Government and individual support & services for disabled mothers are almost totally inaccessible or do not exist.

Women’s services are often inaccessible to Women With Disabilities (WWDs).

Many doctors have difficulty dealing with Women who are both pregnant and disabled.

The unemployment rate for Women with Disabilities in Nigeria is 98%

Women With Disabilities have a higher excessive mortality rate than do disabled men.

Women With Disabilities are often neglected

The most inescapable reality for Women with Disabilities is POVERTY.
